Dieselpowerman and I found a fly rod at his house yesterday.  I have fly fished in Alaska a little bit, and after a few minutes of practice, we decided that we might be good enough to sight cast some redfish with one.

Anyone have any cheapy starter fly rod suggestions?

Anyone else fish the bays with a fly...Its gotta be fun and gotta be killer on the shallow reds!

I think you are getting into fly fishing in the upcoming windiest months of the year in south texas. You should probably invest in some lead !

I don't think the wind is that big of deal....Casting straight into it maybe....It just takes a little practice-or so I've heard...We shall see....

its a PIA when its windy...its not as bad if the wind is at your back, but if its blowing pretty hard you can't get a back cast to layout behind you, and your cast ends up in a tangled mess about 20 yards in front of you.

It can be done in the wind, you just have to know what you are doing
